A-CC Commission adopts new short term rental regulations – WGAU

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners voted last night to adopt, with a sunset provision, new restrictions on short-term rentals in Athens. Under the new requirements, those who rent with Airbnb and VRBO will have to live in the homes they are putting into the short-term rental market.

The Commission, which came during a five-hour meeting at City Hall, followed public input from critics and supporters of the proposal. Critics—many who are in the short-term rental business—threatened lawsuits upon passage of the measure.

Commissioners, near the end of last night’s meeting, heard again from a sizable contingent of community residents calling on the Athens-Clarke County government to endorse a resolution seeking a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
