The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will conduct a public hearing today on a proposed ordinance to amend county code to regulate short-term rentals, or so-called Airbnbs, in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The proposed ordinance would amend County Code, Title 7 — Business Licenses to require that a short-term rental host register each year and pay an annual fee of $914. The registration fee is based on full cost recovery and includes administration and enforcement of the program, salaries, employee benefits, indirect costs and services and supplies, according to a letter to the board from Keith Knox, treasurer and tax collector.
