Hinsdale May Ban Short-Term Rentals Such As Airbnbs – Patch

HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale is considering limiting rentals in residential neighborhoods to six months.

On Tuesday, the Village Board is set to vote on whether to send the issue to the Plan Commission for a review.

The measure appears to be aimed at the trend of rentals such as Airbnbs and Vrbos. The village said it has received complaints from neighbors about such rentals.

The village administration said the restriction will help preserve the residential character of neighborhoods. It also said it wants to limit issues related to parking, noise, unlicensed animals and other nuisances.

The village justified the rule saying commercial activity is not suitable for residential areas.

Last summer, Darien aldermen voted to ban the rental of homes for less than 30 days. This followed complaints from residents that Airbnbs were causing problems in their neighborhoods, with some places becoming party houses.
