SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – St. Joseph will allow short-term vacation rentals at the end of this month, a new report says.
According to our reporting partners at The Herald-Palladium, the city commission approved a second reading of a zoning ordinance amendment to allow dwelling units above businesses downtown to be used for rentals of 30 days or less.
The ordinance would begin 10 days after approval, meaning applications can be taken at the end of the month.
However, there are some conditions, including fire safety features and bathrooms in each unit, and that no units can be rented out short-term on the first floor or street level.
Officials say that right now, there are about 55 dwelling units that could be used as vacation rentals in the downtown area, per the report.
